The phenomenal Jupiter Ensemble brings together a distinguished high-energy group of early-music artists whose playing is marked by “freedom, energy, listening and improvisation,” while mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre has been praised by The New York Times for bringing “life and beauty to everything she touched.” Their program explores the world of the Amazons through arias and instrumental music by Provenzale, Cavalli, Pallavicino, Marais, Vivaldi, and others — a dramatic sequence of warrior queens, heroines, storms, laments, and battle scenes drawn from a rarely heard corner of Baroque opera.
There will be a pre-concert talk with Dr. Paul Laird at 6:15 PM
