DIRECTOR OF PHILANTHROPY

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City is seeking an experienced, goal-oriented Director of Philanthropy. This extraordinary person will use their passion and expertise to lead and execute individual, corporate and foundation giving in support of our mission.

The Director of Philanthropy will be self-motivated and possess effective communication skills and high emotional intelligence. This position reports to the Executive Director, who also partners with the Director of Philanthropy to create and implement annual and long-term fundraising strategies. Interaction with the Artistic Directors is also expected.

This person is expected to understand and implement all functions, including coordination and implementation of major, corporate and foundation gifts, grant writing, planned giving, and database management. This person also will be expected to attend all performances, receptions, and other events to cultivate prospects and steward donors.

Success with moves management, securing major gifts, grant writing and building relationships with current and prospective donors is highly desired. This person also should possess a growth mindset and a collaborative, caring nature.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Fundraising Planning, Strategy, and Management

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to establish, maintain, and iteratively refine data-driven fundraising objectives and strategies that align with the organization’s current needs and future growth.

  • Work with the Marketing Director to grow the organization's digital presence in support of development efforts.

  • Prepare reports and forecasts for ongoing Board meetings and for the Executive Director as requested Individual and Planned Giving.

  • Preparation and management of the Development Budget: Establish and achieve yearly goals for individual giving, including major gifts, annual-fund and planned gifts.

  • Implement donor acquisition/cultivation strategies.

  • Develop and implement donor stewardship/retention/growth strategies.

  • Coordinate donor visits with Executive Director and, as appropriate, with Artistic Directors.

Corporate, Foundation and Government Funding

  • Maintain current funders through a robust donor-stewardship program.

  • Identify and cultivate prospective funding sources and grant opportunities

  • Work with the Executive Director to submit proposals and reports by deadline.

Events

  • Set goals, strategy and workflow for fundraising events, including our yearly Soirée and concerts each season.

  • Collaborate with the Soirée Event Coordinator and volunteer committee to ensure we meet goals and deliver a superior guest experience.

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, identify and solicit event-supporting corporate, individual and foundation gifts.

  • Explore opportunities to develop new fundraising events and promotions that raise awareness and the potential for additional revenue.

  • Attend networking events in the Kansas City community with the goal of raising awareness and cultivating prospects.

  • Coordinate with staff to oversee event logistics.

Fundraising Systems

  • Maintain current donor records in our NeonOne database for accuracy, and analyze data using wealth-management tools and ticket-purchasing trends.

  • Ensure timely donor acknowledgment, including tax letters.

  • Attend workshops on how to leverage NeonOne and other technology, and stay up to date on customer relationship management software and technology.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.

  • At least 5-7 years of fundraising success, with exposure to a variety of donor-centric strategies.

  • Self-starter and self-guided; able to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Measured success in donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and appreciation; corporate and individual experience strongly preferred.

  • Attention to detail with accurate data-entry, communications and word-processing skills.

  • Passion for the mission of the Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City and those who support us.

OTHER

  • Physical Demands: The position requires the ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for prolonged periods. Some lifting required. Ability to drive a car and climb stairs also is required.

  • Schedule: In addition to regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.), some weekend and evening work is required during events and concerts.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $50,000 - $74,999

Benefits: Healthcare, vision, and dental insurance are provided for all full-time employees. Group term life insurance with an AD&D benefit and long-term disability income insurance are also provided for full-time employees. Employees are given one paid day off per month and are also entitled to vacation days after six months of employment. Employees are also given 12 days of paid sick leave per year and these days can be carried from one year to the next.
